A cherished wedding band can become an important part of your daily life.
In 1988 a client who has now become a good friend bought a very special 18 karat yellow gold wedding band with micro pave set diamonds, custom made by a prominent designer, Cindy Royce. At the time I had a quaint jewelry shop in the lobby of the Elms Hotel in Excelsior Springs, MO.
I was proud to carry the fine designer jewelry from this creative and top-notch company. My client enjoyed this ring for years and years, until recently after 24 years of daily wear it was starting to develop cracks which led to the possibility of losing diamonds.
We examined the possibilities of rebuilding the ring using a laser welder, but found it would be better to remake the ring. This involved building up the old ring and having a silicone mold made to cast a new ring. Using this technique the new ring is much heavier and actually turned out better than the original product. We used diamonds from the existing ring and had to replace some of them before resetting. Marsha, the Master Jeweler, using her exceptional diamond setting skills, set each diamond meticulously back into the ring.
The customer commented upon receiving the new piece, that the recreated ring was actually prettier than the original. This ring will certainly be around for another 24 years or more.
