The beautiful green of summer is reflected in the gorgeous shades of peridot, the August birthstone.
Peridot comes in a wide range of colors ranging from yellow-green to deep olive. Egyptians long ago referred to this gemstone that they mined from the Red sea island of Zabargad as the "gem of the sun." Today mines for peridot can be found in Australia, Asia, Africa and South America. Peridot is the mineral species Olivine, which has even been found in meteorites that have crashed to earth, making it truly a celestial mineral.
We have previously written about peridot on past blogs here.
