If you are lucky enough to be born in November, your birthstone carries the beautiful hues of the fall leaves.
Citrine is a member of the quartz family and comes in wonderful range of colors from deep golden yellow, to orange to earthy brown. The fall colors are due to the presence of iron in this extremely rare gemstone. The word "Citrine" takes it's name from the French word Citron, which means "lemon".
Citrine's durability makes it a good choice for daily wear. Citrine is available in many cut ranges and variations of color. Depending on the type of jewelry you want, the shapes and colors can be adapted for many design elements. We enjoy working with Citrine. Citrine sets up well in either white or yellow metal.
Many gems in the quartz family have been used as far back as Egyptian times as talismans and in Ancient Greece and Rome. These gems are even found in jewelry from the Victorian era. Citrine is primarily mined in Bolivia and Brazil. In Bolivia, amethyst and citrine colors can occur together in the same crystal. These unique gems are called ametrine.
One of the things we love about Citrine is its affordability. Large gems remain quite affordable as price per carat does not rise dramatically for larger sizes.
We recently acquired a gorgeous natural step cut Citrine weighing 28.7 carat. The color of this Citrine is absolutely stunning with yellow to orange hues that are vibrant. Marsha hand sculpted a beautiful pendant for this glorious gemstone. When we obtained this gorgeous Citrine Marsha and I sat down to design a pendant that could be worn on a daily basis. We decided to use sterling silver to complement the color of the stone as well as make the price more reasonable. The undercarriage of the pendant has graceful lines that curve to make the prongs that securely hold the Citrine. We designed the bale to accommodate any size chain or choker so it could be worn at different lengths with different outfits. The finished piece of jewelry came out even better than expected. We suspended the pendant on a sterling silver chain with filigree stations. I honestly feel that this beautiful piece of jewelry would be a focal point and conversation piece.
