Sky Blue Aquamarine - March Birthstone

Aquamarine has a striking blue color that reminds you of the blue sky or Caribbean Sea. March's birthstone is calming and exciting at the same time.

The mesmerizing beauty of aquamarine is undeniable. Aquamarine is a member of the beryl family of gemstones. Another popular variety of the beryl mineral family is emerald.

Aquamarine legend and history

Aquamarine gets its name from the Latin word for seawater. Aquamarine lore credits this gemstone with protecting the wearer in battle as well as quickening the intellect. Aquamarine is mined in high elevations across the world such as Pakistan, Brazil, Nigeria, Mozambique and Vietnam. Beryl minerals tend to form very large crystals. The largest gem quality aquamarine on record was mined as a crystal with a length of 19 inches. Below is an image of a rough aquamarine that appears as a six sided crystal, compliments of the GIA.

Aquamarine jewelry

Even if aquamarine is not your birthstone we'd love to help you with jewelry for any other occasion. Perhaps an aquamarine diamond engagement ring or antique jewelry featuring aquamarine. We have some wonderful rings in our vintage fine jewelry selection. Below are just two spectacular pieces from our antique collection. Rings such as this are hard to find, especially in such wonderful condition.  I was lucky enough to purchase these beautiful vintage aquamarine rings from two different estates. The vintage craftsmanship is evident and the stones have a beautiful aqua color, one tending toward green and the other sky blue. The ring with the blue-green gemstone was made with a yellow gold engraved bezel and 14k rose gold shank. The blue aquamarine has a gorgeous scalloped handmade bezel that shows off the beauty of the center gemstone. Both of these rings would make a beautiful addition to your jewelry collection.

In addition to the antique rings found in our vintage fine jewelry selection, we have created pendants and earrings featuring this beautiful blue gemstone. We love working with aquamarine to create custom jewelry projects, beginning with your inspiration and ultimately creating a one of a kind piece of jewelry. Aquamarine is really fun to use in a custom project. We can find you the perfect color and shape aquamarine gemstone to fit your budget. Once you pick the aquamarine that you desire, we can sit down with your input and design you a truly unique ring, whether it be for an engagement or a spectacular birthstone piece of jewelry.

Whether you are searching for a march birthstone or an aquamarine engagement ring we can custom make the perfect piece of aquamarine jewelry for you. Come see us at Richard Dolgin Private Jeweler in Overland Park Kansas to discuss your aquamarine jewelry dream.
